The South African government has made a concerted effort to address the country's skills gap and high youth unemployment rate by introducing various training and development programs. The SITA Learnership is one such program that seeks to provide young South Africans with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in the rapidly evolving IT industry.

What is SITA?

The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is a public entity under the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies responsible for providing IT services to government departments and public entities. As part of its mandate, SITA also runs a learnership program designed to empower young South Africans with IT skills and experience.

What is a Learnership?

A learnership is a work-based training program that combines theoretical learning and practical work experience to provide learners with skills and competencies relevant to a particular occupation or industry. Learnerships are designed to address the skills gap and high youth unemployment rate by providing learners with the opportunity to earn while they learn and gain practical work experience.

The SITA Learnership Program offers numerous benefits to young South Africans looking to enter the IT industry, including:

Practical Work Experience: Learners on the SITA program gain practical work experience through on-the-job training, which prepares them for the demands of the IT industry.

Accredited Training: The program offers accredited training that leads to a nationally recognized qualification upon completion, increasing the employability of learners.

Job Opportunities: Successful learners may be offered permanent employment with SITA or other government departments or public entities.

Support: Learners are provided with support and guidance throughout the program, including mentoring and coaching.

Stipend: Learners receive a monthly stipend to cover their living expenses during the program.

Requirements for the SITA Learnership Program

To be eligible for the SITA Learnership Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a South African citizen

Have a Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science

Be between the ages of 18 and 35

Be unemployed

Have no criminal record

Be willing to undergo a background check

Grade 10/12  or Abet Level 4

Must able to write and read English 

Well groomed and able to work as team 

Strong attendance 

Available  immediate
