HOW TO APPLY FOR FUNZA LUSHAKA BURSARY

Teaching programmes are offered by many Higher Education Institutions in South Africa. If you’re looking to pursue a qualification in teaching, you might want to consider the Funza Lushaka Bursary to fund your studies.

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme is part of a national programme that was initiated to promote teaching as a career and usually covers tuition costs, housing, meals, books, and educational materials in addition to a monthly living expense stipend.

Before applying for the bursary, students must be accepted by an institution that offers teaching programmes and applications can be submitted via the schemes online PORTAL. No hard copy applications are accepted. Applicants should be familiar with the online system to successfully submit and application for Funza Lushaka bursary.

Below is a step by step guide on how to apply for Funza Lushaka for 2023.

How To Complete The Online Application Form:

  • Open the e-Gov portal at www.eservices.gov.za
  • Register by providing personal information.
  • Login to the system using username and password created when registering.
  • On the e-Services Menu select Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme.
  • Enter the OTP received on the preferred channel.
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions.
  • On the dashboard menu click on the 2023 application button.
  • Follow the steps to complete the required field with your information.
  • Accept the declaration to confirm the information captured.

Students who are interested in obtaining a teaching qualification are encouraged to apply before the deadline in 2023 as late applications will not be accepted.

Bursaries are awarded for 1 academic year at a time and students are required to reapply for funding each year. Renewal of the bursary is NOT guaranteed, but is dependent on students academic performance.

After graduation, bursary recipients will be required to teach at a public school (selected by the Provincial Education Department (PED)) – the service contract duration will be equal to the duration of bursary funding received.

Funza Lushaka required document:

Your Certified ID copy 

Your parents/guardian certified ID copy 

Your parents/guardian payslip (if they are working) 

Your matric certificate 

Your academic record if you are already in tertiary 

And lastly your proof of registration (if already in tertiary and your acceptance letter if you are a prospective student) 

CLOSING DATE FOR THE FUNZA LUSHAKA BURSARY


Applications will be opening on 17 October 2022.
Re-applications (existing or returning bursary recipients): 30 November 2022.
New applications will close on: 16 January 2023.
(Applications submitted after these dates will not be accepted – please apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.)
