NSFAS OPEN FOR SECOND SEMESTER picture

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) funds eligible prospective students who plan to further their studies at one of the 26 public universities and 50 registered public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in South Africa.

NSFAS has announced that it is open for 2022 second semester applications at TVET colleges.

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Minister, Dr. Blade Nzimande said the demand for student funding has increased due to the impact of Covid-pandemic.

Nzimande had also revealed that the funding of university and TVET college students through Nsfas went up by 107% from R20 billion in 2018 to R42 billion in 2021.

Tvet college nsfas second semester applications opening and closing dates

The Nsfas funding cycle for Semester 2 for TVET college students opened on 4 July 2022 and the closing deadline for these applications is 22 July 2022.

This applies to a student that has already been registered or intending on registering on a programme that is offered at these institutions.

HOW TO APPLY FOR NSFAS IN TVET COLLEGES

Prospective students have the following options to submit their Nsfas funding applications:

  • TVET college bursary offices
  • Online
  • NSFAS head office

Documents needed to apply for Nsfas 

To apply successfully, it is best to have the following required documents submitted along with your application:

  • Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of student
  • Copy of South African birth certificate/copy of ID document/Temporary ID of parent(s)/guardian/spouse
  • Proof of income (where applicable) – student/parent(s)/guardian or spouse (not older than 3 months.
  • SASSA recipients no proof of income required.
  • A student recognised as a vulnerable child (e.g. Orphan) must submit a completed Vulnerable Child Declaration Form completed by the Social worker
  • Students with disabilities must complete and submit the Disability Annexure A form.
     

The bursary scheme will communicate the outcome of the application, however, students may also track the status of their application on the Nsfas website.

Students are financially assisted in their registration, tuition fees, accommodation, learning materials, transport and living allowances.
